Binance has resumed customer withdrawals after a massive $6.3bn cryptocurrency heist that the FBI has linked to North Korean hackers. The world’s largest crypto exchange temporarily suspended withdrawals following Thursday’s attack while it investigated the breach and conducted security checks.

The company announced on Sunday that it had replaced about 95 percent of the stolen assets, stating that it would absorb the financial impact rather than passing the cost to users. Withdrawals for major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ether, along with some stablecoin services, have been restored in stages.

Binance warned that high demand could cause delays as services return, advising customers to retry failed transactions after a short wait. The exchange also noted that further services would reopen as security checks are completed, while teams continue working with law enforcement to trace and recover the stolen funds.

The FBI identified North Korea as responsible for the theft, tracking the operation under the name TraderTraitor. Investigators observed the attackers converting stolen assets primarily into Ether and warned of further laundering through decentralized finance platforms. Binance initially suspected a compromised employee laptop but later uncovered additional breach points.
