Binance Seeks Clarity in Africa's Fragmented Crypto Regulations
Binance is calling for clearer crypto regulations in Africa as the continent's market expands. The exchange wants regulators to strike a balance between managing risks and supporting innovation, said Larry Cooke, Binance's Africa spokesperson.
Africa has varying levels of regulation, making it difficult for companies to operate across borders. South Africa requires licenses before operating, while Ghana gives businesses a sandbox to test new products under regulatory supervision. Kenya has its own approach, with rules for virtual asset providers and requirements around compliance.
Cooke argued that countries don't need identical rules but better coordination among regulators could make it easier for companies to work across borders. He also highlighted the potential of blockchain technology in making cross-border payments faster and cheaper.
