Trump's Crypto Summit: CLARITY Act, National Bitcoin Reserve, and Hyperliquid Rally
US President Donald Trump recently hosted a high-stakes crypto summit at the White House. The event saw attendance from prominent figures in both traditional and crypto finance, including Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, and Gemini Founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.
Attendees also included federal regulators such as Chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Paul Atkins and Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Mike Selig. The meeting was notable for its discussion on the CLARITY Act, a bill aimed at promoting innovation-friendly regulations in the financial sector.
According to Armstrong, banks are pushing back against the proposed legislation because they 'don't want the competition.' Trump and regulators emphasized the need for more accommodating regulations to support the growth of the crypto industry. They pointed out that since Trump's inauguration, there have been 583 IPOs raising a total of $208 billion.
The meeting also touched on the topic of a national Bitcoin reserve. Trump expressed interest in buying 'sizable' amounts of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, stating that such a stockpile would alleviate pressure on the US dollar. Discussions surrounding tokenizing traditional assets, prediction markets operations, and supporting artificial intelligence (AI) were also brought up.
The event comes after the SEC's recent proposal for crypto offerings with relaxed securities requirements and ahead of the September 15 vote on the CLARITY Act, which is expected to pass with higher odds. Additionally, CFTC Chair Mike Selig announced plans to bring Hyperliquid to the US, causing a notable surge in HYPE's price.
