Binance Sees Record Bitcoin Outflows as Whales Amass Stablecoins
Bitcoin's market activity on Binance has shown significant shifts, with the exchange experiencing its largest Bitcoin outflows in over three years. According to CryptoQuant, Binance recorded net outflows of 23,137 BTC in the week ending September 27, marking the highest weekly outflow since June 2023. This trend suggests that traders are moving BTC off the exchange, potentially indicating accumulation behavior rather than short-term trading.
Binance's total Bitcoin reserves have decreased by nearly 40,000 BTC since September 20, reinforcing the notion of a broader shift in supply dynamics. CryptoQuant notes that such outflows often precede market strength, as moving Bitcoin off widely used exchanges is typically associated with longer-term investment strategies. Despite this, Bitcoin has remained within a tight trading range of $82,500 to $87,400 since September 21, with exchange liquidity dynamics cited as a factor behind the muted price movements.
While Bitcoin balances on Binance are declining, stablecoin inflows have been increasing. Whale entities have raised rolling 30-day stablecoin inflows to Binance by 40% since mid-August, from $21.7 billion to $30.5 billion. This behavior suggests that large traders are preparing for future buying opportunities, as stablecoins are often used as 'dry powder' for quick cryptoasset purchases. The combination of BTC outflows and stablecoin inflows indicates reduced sell pressure and increased readiness to buy if market conditions improve.
The next key test for Bitcoin will be whether it can break out of its current trading range, particularly with the overhead resistance level near $87,570 in focus. Traders will be watching to see if the supply-demand shift translates into a decisive move beyond the $82,500, $87,400 range.
