Binance, one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, has come under scrutiny after sharing personal data about a Russian client who was later accused of financing terrorism. The exchange provided investigators with information about cryptocurrency transactions made by Yuri Belenkiy, a 49-year-old Russian citizen living in Bulgaria.

The information was used to build a case against Belenkiy, who is accused of transferring over $700 to the Ukrainian military and an associated group known as the Azov Brigade or Azov Regiment. The Russian authorities designate this organization as a terrorist group.

Belenkiy's lawyer has not commented on the allegations, but Binance's actions have raised questions about how international cryptocurrency exchanges respond to law-enforcement requests from jurisdictions where customers may face politically sensitive prosecutions.
