U.S. prosecutors are investigating whether Binance knowingly allowed transactions that violated sanctions on Iran, according to a probe led by the Manhattan U.S. Attorney's Office and the DOJ criminal division.

The investigation follows a separate effort to recover $61 million allegedly linked to Iranian oil sales, without accusing Binance of any wrongdoing.

Binance cites its compliance measures and points to a prior $4.3 billion settlement in 2023 as evidence of its cooperation with regulators.

The probe raises concerns about regulatory risk for the crypto industry, centralized exchanges (CEX), DeFi interactions, and token sentiment.
