Binance XRP Leverage Ratio Hits Seven-Month High Amid Bolder Trading

Binance's XRP derivatives traders are getting bolder as the exchange's Estimated Leverage Ratio (ELR) for XRP has reached its highest level in over seven months.

The ELR climbed to approximately 0.213 on August 24, marking a significant shift from the subdued levels seen throughout most of the year.

This increase is particularly notable given that it coincides with Binance's recent decision to double the maximum allowable leverage for XRP and RLUSD from 5x to 10x.

The ELR measures the relationship between open interest in XRP futures and the XRP reserves held on Binance, making a ratio above 0.2 indicate that traders are deploying more borrowed capital relative to actual XRP sitting on the exchange.

This rise in leverage could be seen as either optimistic or ominous, as it indicates increased willingness among traders to bet on XRP's price trajectory with borrowed money, but also increases the risk of violent liquidation cascades if prices reverse.
