Binance's SAFU Fund Swells to $1.27B as Bitcoin Surges
Binance's SAFU fund, a reserve set up to cover user losses in case of a hack or other major issues, now holds a staggering $1.27 billion worth of Bitcoin. This includes around $270 million in unrealized profit, thanks to the exchange's strategic conversion of $1 billion in stablecoins into 15,000 BTC in mid-February 2026.
The conversion, which wrapped up on February 12, was made at a price of around $67,000 per BTC. By early May 2026, Bitcoin had surged to over $81,000, pushing the fund's value past $1.2 billion and generating a paper profit of approximately $217 million. Today, the fund's value stands at over $1.27 billion, with paper gains reaching around $270 million.
Binance has made the fund's wallet public, allowing anyone to check its balance on-chain. The exchange has also committed to regular audits of the fund and a top-up rule, which will restore the fund to $1 billion if its market value falls below $800 million.
