BIP-110 Fork Stalls as Low Mining Support Fails to Trigger Upgrade
A contentious Bitcoin fork triggered by the mandatory signaling of BIP-110 on August 8 at block 961,632 has stalled after only two blocks were mined. This occurred because nodes enforcing BIP-110 rejected non-signaling blocks while standard Bitcoin nodes continued to accept valid proof-of-work blocks regardless of the signal.
The split saw the non-enforcing chain advance to block 961,721, widening the gap to 88 blocks by August 9. According to difficulty adjustment mechanism rules, the BIP-110 chain must mine through block 963,647 to receive a difficulty adjustment.
Mining support for BIP-110 remains low, with only 51 blocks signaling support during the previous 2,016-block period, which represents just 2.53% of the total and falls short of the proposed 55% threshold.
