Bipartisan Crypto Bill Nears Completion Amid Industry Resistance
Staff from both sides of the aisle have been working together to finalize a sweeping crypto market structure bill, known as the CLARITY Act (H.R. 3633), which would represent the most significant overhaul of digital asset regulation in US history.
The legislation has undergone substantial input from the Senate Banking and Agriculture Committees, with an updated merged text spanning 616 pages released on July 22.
Bipartisan discussions have centered on ethics provisions, oversight of decentralized finance, stablecoin yield mechanisms, and the delineation of regulatory authority between the SEC and CFTC.
The banking industry has been vocal about its opposition to certain provisions, viewing yield-bearing stablecoins as direct competition to traditional deposit products.
