BIS Tests XRP Ledger Amid Growing Institutional Interest in Blockchain
The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has put the XRP Ledger to the test, sparking a response from Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse. In a statement, Garlinghouse pointed out that the BIS's exploration of XRPL should not come as a surprise given its established capabilities and characteristics that make it suitable for institutional applications.
Garlinghouse highlighted three key features of the XRP Ledger: low transaction fees, fast settlement times, and its proven operating history. He argued that these technical strengths make XRPL a logical network to explore for verifying official statistical information without placing underlying datasets directly on-chain.
The BIS experiment aims to use blockchain technology to verify official statistics while maintaining control over sensitive data. Garlinghouse's comments have fueled discussion across the XRP community, with supporters viewing the test as another indication that established institutions are examining XRPL beyond conventional cryptocurrency transactions.
