Bitcoin and Ethereum Dominate Crypto Market with Overwhelming Institutional Support
The crypto market has become increasingly dominated by two cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). Of the top 20 spot cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs), 12 are dedicated to Bitcoin, while six focus on Ethereum. Solana (SOL) is the only other major player in the top 20 with two spot crypto ETFs.
Bitcoin accounts for almost 60% of the total value in the crypto market and has attracted significant investment due to its unique properties as a risk-on and risk-off asset. BlackRock refers to Bitcoin as a 'unique portfolio diversifier' due to its ability to zig when other assets zag.
Ethereum, on the other hand, has gained popularity among institutional investors due to its well-developed decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem. Tom Lee notes that Ethereum is the preferred choice for Wall Street due to its established DeFi platform.
