Bitcoin BIP-110 Stays Alive Despite Meager Miner Backing
Despite near-zero miner support, Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP) 110 refuses to die. Introduced in 2018, BIP-110 aims to increase the block size limit of the Bitcoin network from 1 megabyte to 4 megabytes. However, with only a handful of miners supporting it, some experts have questioned its viability.
Bullish's Director of Mining, Alex Brammer, stated that 'Bitcoiners are not interested in large blocks' due to concerns about centralization and network congestion. He added that BIP-110 would require significant changes to the network's architecture, which could be difficult to implement.
The proposal has also faced opposition from prominent Bitcoin developers, including Wladimir van der Laan, who argued that it is not a 'real solution' to the network's scalability issues. Despite these concerns, some supporters of BIP-110 believe that it could provide much-needed relief for the network, which has been experiencing congestion and high transaction fees.
