Bitcoin Blazes Past $70,000 as Markets React to Treasury Moves
Bitcoin surged 11.4 percent on Thursday, August 20, to break above $70,000 for the first time in over two months, reaching a price of approximately $71,920.
The day's trading range spanned from $64,323 to $71,747, with a volume of around $60.46 billion, marking Bitcoin's highest price level since June 1.
According to Blockonomi, the coin had already crossed $70,000 on Wednesday, August 19, before pulling back to around $69,581, resulting in a gain of more than 7 percent that day.
The acceleration in Bitcoin's price can be attributed to forced position closures and fresh capital arriving into the market. Over $1 billion in short positions were liquidated within an hour once Bitcoin cleared $69,000, contributing to its upward momentum.
