Bitcoin Bounces Back After Senate Vets Clarity Act
The CLARITY Act was voted down by the US Senate, but Bitcoin managed to weather the storm. The bill aimed to establish clearer boundaries between the SEC and CFTC and create federal rules for crypto markets and intermediaries.
COO at Bitget Wallet Alvin Kan noted that the vote did not introduce new restrictions on self-custody or self-hosted wallets, but left protections without a stronger statutory foundation.
Kan explained that continued uncertainty affects smaller companies disproportionately. The US share of global crypto devs has dropped from 38% in 2015 to 19%, and the country captured between 2-5% of centralized-exchange volume growth between 2024 and 2025, according to Electric Capital data.
The CLARITY Act is not technically dead, as a procedural vote by Senator Thom Tillis preserves the possibility of reconsideration. However, regulatory bodies like the SEC are expected to continue using their existing authority.
