Bitcoin Bounces on Debt Fears, Ties to Gold
Bitcoin rebounded strongly after falling below $80,000, posting its biggest three-day gain since 2023. According to Robbie Mitchnick, BlackRock's head of digital assets, growing U.S. debt and yearly budget shortfalls are fueling concerns among investors.
Mitchnick stated that 'debt and deficit levels are a major concern for markets.' When these worries rise, he noted people seek out assets that hold value, such as Bitcoin and gold.
The price bounce followed warnings from prominent investors Stanley Druckenmiller and Ray Dalio about America's fiscal situation. Mitchnick attributed this shift to the perception of Bitcoin as a store of value, distinct from other risky investments.
While regulation remains unclear, Mitchnick stated markets are watching and waiting for clarity on the CLARITY Act, which could set clearer rules for digital assets. The bill is expected to take effect if it becomes law on August 26, 2026.
