Bitcoin Braces for Rate Expectations Reversal on Macro Data Deluge
Crypto markets are bracing for a critical week of economic data releases that could shape expectations around interest rates and impact asset prices. The MarketWatch economic calendar lists key events from Tuesday to Friday, with several indicators capable of influencing policy signals. Bitcoin is trading near $83,000 after a recent pullback from its highs.
The first major test arrives on Tuesday with the release of August JOLTS job openings and September consumer confidence data. Analysts expect JOLTS to reach around 7.2 million openings, down slightly from 7.3 million previously. A stronger labor reading may keep rate-hike expectations elevated, while a weaker demand for workers could ease some pressure.
Wednesday's events are centered on inflation and growth, with final second-quarter GDP expected at 1.5% and August core PCE forecast to rise 0.3% month over month. The broader PCE index is also anticipated to increase by 0.3% monthly, with annual inflation near 3.6%. Hotter readings could strengthen the case for additional tightening.
Thursday's focus shifts to manufacturing, with initial jobless claims expected at around 200,000 and the ISM Manufacturing PMI forecast at 54.8, slightly above the previous 54.6. A stronger factory reading may support the view that the economy can absorb tighter policy, while softer data could strengthen the case for caution.
The decisive September jobs report is scheduled for Friday, with nonfarm payrolls expected to rise by about 83,000, down sharply from 162,000 in August. Unemployment is forecast to remain at 4.1%, and monthly wage growth is anticipated at 0.3%.
