Bitcoin Breaks Above 50-Week Moving Average After 45-Week Drought
Bitcoin has broken through a significant technical barrier by closing above its 50-week moving average for the first time in 45 weeks. This milestone comes after a substantial price increase of approximately 29% over the past 35 days, with Bitcoin's weekly close on September 20 reaching $81,159.
According to data from Galaxy Research, this marks the end of a prolonged period below the 50-week average, which had been in place since November 2025. The previous weekly close above the indicator occurred on November 9, 2025, followed by 44 consecutive weekly closes below it.
The recovery has been impressive, with Bitcoin climbing from around $62,900 in mid-August to more than $81,000 by September 20. Galaxy Research's historical analysis found that regaining the 50-week moving average has frequently acted as resistance during previous bear-market periods.
