Bitcoin Breaks Above 50-Week Moving Average for First Time Since November 2025
Bitcoin's price has finally crossed above its 50-week moving average for the first time since November 2025, closing at $81,159 on September 20, 2026.
This milestone marks the end of a 45-week period where Bitcoin traded below one of the most closely watched trend indicators in the market.
The catalyst for this breakout was a 6% single-day surge on September 18, which briefly pushed Bitcoin's price past $81,200. This move was accompanied by heightened whale activity and short liquidations.
Historically, when Bitcoin reclaims its 50-week moving average after a bear-market breakdown, it has not resulted in new cycle lows in most cases. According to data from Galaxy Research head Alex Thorn, who tracked 13 comparable instances, the reclaim did not result in new cycle lows in 11 of those cases.
