Bitcoin Breaks Above $80,000 as New Market Regime Takes Hold

A Wall Street veteran believes that Bitcoin has entered a new market regime following its recent price surge above $80,000. Andy Baehr, managing director of asset management at GSR and a former Morgan Stanley derivatives executive, says this marks a significant shift in the market's underlying structure.

The move was fueled by nearly $2 billion flowing into U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs over five consecutive sessions, as well as heavy short liquidations that accelerated the breakout. Baehr also points to the strength of Ethereum and Solana as evidence that investors are increasingly positioning for broader blockchain adoption, tokenization, and stablecoin growth.

The shift towards regulated investment products and macro liquidity is a key factor in Bitcoin's price action, with spot ETFs giving traditional investors direct access to BTC exposure without managing wallets or exchange accounts. This makes fund flows an important gauge of demand.
