Bitcoin Breaks Below $80,000 as Altcoin Rally Fades
Bitcoin's failed breakout attempt at $80,000 on Monday marked the end of a weekend altcoin rally that saw smaller tokens push into double-digit gains. The pullback exposed the fragility of the rally as Bitcoin struggled to reclaim higher ground, with BTC trading near $79,300 after spending the weekend trapped below $81,400.
The decline in futures open interest from 709,000 BTC on Friday to 670,000 BTC on Monday suggested traders were reducing bullish exposure rather than aggressively extending the weekend move. The perpetual funding rates also moved closer to zero, indicating a decrease in market volatility.
Pi Network's PI token offered a contrasting picture, remaining above the $0.09 support area and challenging resistance near $0.095 without breaking through. This stability stood out as Bitcoin failed again near $80,000 and several other assets surrendered part of their weekend gains.
