Bitcoin Breaks Past $70,000 as Trump and Treasury Weigh in

Bitcoin surged past $70,000 for the first time since June 2 on Wednesday, but its momentum was short-lived as it slid back below that mark.

The price increase of over 7% in the past 24 hours is significant, and analysts point to three key factors contributing to this rise: President Donald Trump's call for Congress to pass a 'fair version' of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's decision to double the size of the Treasury Department's bond buyback operations, and an inverse head-and-shoulders chart pattern that predicted a possible move towards $76,000.

The Clarity Act has been making its way through Congress, with a procedural vote scheduled for September 15. This development has been closely watched by traders, who see it as a potential catalyst for further price increases. In contrast, the Treasury Department's bond buyback operations are seen as a liquidity backstop that could support the Treasury market and potentially trickle down to risk assets like Bitcoin.

The chart pattern observed by analyst Aksel Kibar suggests that a confirmed break above $66,600 would point towards a possible move towards $76,000. However, the Fed's July meeting minutes reveal that several officials favored a hike in interest rates, and inflation risks are still pointed up, which could be a headwind for Bitcoin.

In related news, Zcash has released its Tachyon upgrade, which aims to scale shielded payments, improve quantum readiness, and test the network's governance. The success of this upgrade will be closely watched by investors.
