Bitcoin Breaks Three-Year Streak of Green Septembers
Bitcoin's reputation for being in 'Red September' mode may be outdated. For three consecutive years, from 2023 to 2025, the cryptocurrency has closed with a green price on CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko data. This is the longest such streak in its trading history.
The historical data shows that previous red Septembers were often due to extreme events, such as the post-2013 bear market or the 2018-2019 'crypto winter.' If these outliers are removed, the remaining Septembers cluster closer to flat. The current run is different, coinciding with structural shifts in the market, including the launch of U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs and a rise in Bitcoin's dominance.
Currently, Bitcoin's price base sits above $74,000, its momentum is strong at +25%, and sentiment is in 'Greed' territory on CoinMarketCap's Fear & Greed Index. Market structure also shows that capital is concentrated in Bitcoin rather than rotating into higher-beta altcoins.
