Bitcoin Breaks Through 50-Week Moving Average Ceiling After 45 Weeks
Bitcoin has finally broken through a key technical level that had capped its price for 45 weeks, closing above its 50-week moving average (50W MA) in a significant move. This historical record is striking: across 13 weekly reclaims during completed Bitcoin bear markets, only two were followed by another lower low.
The significance of this move was highlighted by Galaxy Research's Head of Firmwide Research Alex Thorn on X, noting that Bitcoin has gained 29% over the past 35 days. This adds further weight to the latest development, which marks a historically important crossroads for the cryptocurrency.
Historically, when Bitcoin reclaimed the 50W MA after a bear-market low, it rarely made a new low afterwards. However, this does not confirm that the current bottom is in and more time may be needed before we can say with certainty whether or not this marks the end of the bear market.
While the historical record does not establish a probability for the current cycle, it does show that decisive weekly reclaims have generally been associated with a market that was already moving beyond its bear-market lows. This adds weight to the idea that if Bitcoin holds above the 50W MA on a weekly basis, this latest move would increasingly resemble the post-bottom reclaims seen in previous cycles.
