Bitcoin Breaks Through $79K as Fed Meeting Looms
Bitcoin (BTC) broke through $79,000 on Monday as investors await the Federal Reserve's upcoming meeting. Markets have already priced in a 25-basis-point rate increase following August inflation data release.
The US headline CPI rose 0.4% month-over-month, while annual inflation remained at 3.4%. Core CPI increased 0.3% month-over-month, exceeding the 0.2% consensus expectation. QCP analysts believe Bitcoin's initial decline to $76,700 indicates that expectations for a rate increase have been largely absorbed.
QCP highlighted the importance of how policymakers frame their message and what it signals about future rate moves. The company pointed out that ETF flows are an essential signal of market positioning. Spot Bitcoin ETFs saw net outflows of $462.7 million last week, but Friday's outflows slowed significantly to $13.3 million.
Strategy repurchased 1.4 million shares of its STRC preferred stock using $139.3 million of its USD Cash. This move did not add to its Bitcoin position, which remained unchanged at approximately 845,050 BTC. The company's USD Cash balance stood at $1.3 billion, with a separate USD Reserve totaling $5.1 billion.
