Bitcoin Bulls Face Hurdle as August Rally Fails to Clear Key High

Bitcoin staged a significant recovery in August, rallying by 25% over the month. However, despite this impressive gain, analysts warn that the cryptocurrency still needs to clear a critical hurdle before confirming a new bull market.

Widely-followed trader Jackis notes that Bitcoin's breakout above its 200-day moving average has shifted sentiment from fear to extreme greed. While this move strengthens the case for a potential bottom in the market, Jackis cautions that BTC technically remains in a higher-time-frame bear trend.

The key level separating the competing bullish and bearish scenarios is Bitcoin's May high, which still needs to be broken and gained acceptance above before confirming a new uptrend. Jackis sees similarities between today's setup and Bitcoin's recovery from its 2022 bear-market bottom, but notes that the market structure this time around is different.

Market structure is crucial in determining whether Bitcoin will continue to rally or fall further. In 2023, Bitcoin had already broken a major higher-time-frame high before reclaiming the 200-day average, whereas this time around, that breakout has yet to occur.
