Bitcoin Cash Futures Launch Fuels BCH Price Surge Amid CME and Grayscale Developments
The price of Bitcoin Cash (BCH) has skyrocketed by over 30% in the past 24 hours, and more than 58% in the last seven days. The rally was triggered by CME Group's announcement that it plans to launch BCH futures on October 19, pending regulatory review. This will provide traders with a regulated route to trade or manage BCH exposure outside of the spot crypto market.
The Grayscale Bitcoin Cash Trust has also filed an amended registration statement, adding another regulated-market development around BCH. The trust allows investors to gain BCH exposure through shares instead of buying and storing the cryptocurrency themselves. The planned CME products will be available in two forms: standard futures representing 250 BCH, and micro contracts representing 25 BCH.
The surge in trading activity has led to a significant increase in open interest, with the total value of outstanding futures contracts held by traders reaching around $600 million. This is the highest level since May, indicating an influx of new capital into the market. Retail sentiment on Stocktwits also shifted from 'bearish' to 'bullish' territory for BCH, while BTC remains in the 'bullish' zone.
