Bitcoin Cash Surges 30% Amid CME Futures Announcement
The price of Bitcoin Cash (BCH) surged by as much as 30% after CME Group announced its plans to list BCH futures on October 19, pending regulatory review. This move comes with the launch of Uniswap (UNI) futures on the same date. The CME Group's announcement had a significant impact on BCH, causing it to trade at approximately two and a half times the volume of the previous session.
Interestingly, the announcement had different effects on the coins involved. While UNI saw a marginal gain of around 5% shortly after the news, Bitcoin Cash continued to climb throughout the day. In contrast, Cardano (ADA) and Chainlink (LINK) lost over a third of their value between the announcement and the launch of their futures.
One factor contributing to BCH's price surge is the recent Grayscale ETF filing. Grayscale updated its registration with the SEC to list the Bitcoin Cash Trust on NYSE Arca under the ticker BCHG, a year after its initial filing in September 2025. This means an approved ETF would purchase the coin, unlike CME's futures contracts, which settle in cash and do not involve the actual coin.
However, if futures listings are the only driving force behind BCH's price surge, it could drop similarly to Cardano and Chainlink, both of which lost over a third of their value between the announcement and the launch of their futures. If Bitcoin Cash falls back below $267, approximately 24% below the current $351 price, it may indicate fading momentum before futures contracts even start trading on October 19.
