Bitcoin Consolidates After Rally, ETF Demand Remains Key to Sustained Recovery
Bitcoin's recent rally has entered a consolidation phase, following a sharp increase in price over the past two weeks. According to K33, Bitcoin's average daily spot volume declined by 35% over the past week, dropping to $3.1 billion. However, this decline is attributed to an unusually active period during the BTC's 23% rally.
The market activity remains stronger than it was before the breakout, with volumes still 48% above the July 1 to August 15 average. Bitcoin's seven-day volatility has also softened, dropping to 1.6%, below its yearly median of 1.8%. Additionally, Bitcoin's relationship with traditional assets has become increasingly notable, with its 90-day correlation with gold reaching an all-time high of 0.52.
K33 notes that the changing correlation environment has strengthened the narrative around Bitcoin as a potential 'debasement and liquidity hedge.' Despite this, demand through Bitcoin exchange-traded products (ETPs) remains notable, with global Bitcoin ETPs absorbing 52,152 BTC in August, marking the strongest monthly inflow since November 2024.
Wintermute analysts argue that ETF flows remain central to Bitcoin's ability to sustain its recent recovery. They identify $82,000 as a key resistance level and note that under-allocated investors are helping support prices, even as the market struggles to establish a clear short-term direction.
