Bitcoin Correlation with Gold Hits 50%, Safe-Haven Status in Jeopardy

The correlation between Bitcoin and gold has reached an all-time high of 50%, according to Grayscale's analysis. This development raises questions about whether Bitcoin can continue to hold its safe-haven status, especially in times of macroeconomic uncertainty.

New tensions between the U.S. and Iran have sparked concerns about global economic stability, causing oil prices to surge past $90 a barrel. The market is also pricing in a 60% probability of a rate hike at the upcoming FOMC meeting, further exacerbating the situation.

Rising interest rates and tighter financial conditions could pressure risk assets, but Bitcoin's correlation with gold suggests it may be well-positioned to outperform. According to TradingView data, the BTC/XAU ratio has climbed 1.2% this month, nearing a key support level after two consecutive months of outflows.

The Federal Reserve's plan to purchase $12.5 billion in U.S. Treasury debt could inject some liquidity into the market and ease financial conditions. However, this conflicting setup poses a challenge for Bitcoin's safe-haven narrative.
