Bitcoin.de Trading Halt Continues as Company Transitions to Broker Model
The trading and deposit halt at bitcoin.de has been ongoing since June 12, 2026. This means that customers have been without access to their accounts for over two months.
The company behind bitcoin.de, Bitcoin Group SE, is in the process of changing its business model from a peer-to-peer marketplace to a broker model. This change involves trading against the provider itself, rather than other users. The new model aims to provide more predictable execution and security, but it also means that the counterparty to customers' orders is now the company.
The regulatory position of bitcoin.de is also noteworthy. The operator's bank, futurum bank AG, is currently undergoing a MICAR authorisation procedure under the European crypto-markets regulation. This process is normal and common for many providers in Europe, but it does not provide any specific information about when trading will resume.
Cryptocurrency exchanges across the EU are subject to new regulations since July 1, 2026, requiring them to obtain a CASP authorisation under MiCA. The bitcoin.de case is unique in that the company is announcing a return rather than withdrawing or shutting down.
