Bitcoin Defies Bearish Catalysts with Record-Breaking Price Surge
Bitcoin's price has surged to $87,000, its highest level in eight months. This rally has defied every bearish catalyst, including a failed Senate bill and a rate hike by the Federal Reserve.
The CLARITY Act, which aimed to provide federal market structure rules for crypto, failed on the Senate floor with 10 votes short of the required 60. The next day, the Federal Reserve raised interest rates for the first time since 2023, and the Bank of Japan raised its rates to a 31-year high.
Additionally, there was a warning from Anthropic's Dario Amodei about the AI trade, which was echoed by Sam Altman and Elon Musk. Despite this, Bitcoin continued to rise, with roughly $1 billion in crypto positions being liquidated in a single 24-hour stretch.
The majority of these liquidations came from short positions, with $843 million of the total coming from shorts. This suggests that the move was driven by genuine demand rather than just short-covering mechanics.
