Bitcoin Defies Challenges to Reach New Heights Amid Regulatory Uncertainty and Wallet Exploit
Bitcoin's price rose above $65,170 on Friday, marking an increase of nearly 4% over the past week. Despite the market's challenges from a significant wallet exploit and regulatory uncertainty in the US, investors remain confident in Bitcoin's long-term prospects.
The recent Coldcard wallet exploit exposed vulnerabilities that allowed hackers to steal millions of dollars' worth of Bitcoin. The attackers targeted weak private keys generated by the wallet's firmware, compromising the security of numerous holders. Over $130 million worth of Bitcoin has been stolen so far, according to estimates from industry watchers.
Regulatory uncertainty in the US has also added to the market's pressure, as lawmakers delayed the Clarity Act vote until September. The bill aimed to establish clearer digital asset regulations and potentially encourage stronger institutional participation in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
However, strong inflows into spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have fueled Bitcoin's price gains. Investor demand for ETF shares, particularly BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust and Morgan Stanley's newly launched Bitcoin fund, contributed to the latest price rally. Data from Farside Investors indicates that Bitcoin-based ETFs collectively received $763.6 million in new capital since the start of the week.
