Bitcoin Defies Dollar Strength with Record-Setting Gains
The traditional correlation between a strong US Dollar Index and a declining Bitcoin has been turned on its head in September. The US Dollar Index surged to 101.61, its highest level since late July, yet BTC posted a gain of approximately 6.14% during the same period.
This anomaly has forced analysts to rethink their assumptions about the relationship between the dollar and Bitcoin. Historically, September has been a challenging month for Bitcoin, with an average loss of around 2.42%. However, this year's outcome was vastly different, as BTC spent late September trading comfortably in the $83,000 to $84,600 range.
The strong performance of Bitcoin can be attributed, in part, to institutional appetite. Spot Bitcoin ETFs generated record weekly inflows approaching $2.4 billion in a single week during Q3 2026. This influx of capital has contributed significantly to the rally, which saw BTC surge over 40% from July lows of approximately $58,500.
The question now is whether this momentum can continue into October. Historically, October has delivered the highest median monthly return for Bitcoin, averaging a gain of 14.71%. If this trend holds true, a 14.71% gain from late September's $84,600 level would put BTC near $97,000.
