Bitcoin Defies Expectations, Remains Resilient Despite Clarity Act Failure
Crypto traders were bracing for a downturn in the market last week, anticipating a Fed rate hike and the failure of the Clarity Act in the Senate. However, Bitcoin defied expectations by remaining resilient despite these challenges.
Ahead of the Senate vote on September 14, there was widespread uncertainty about the outcome of the bill. As rumors circulated about partisan gridlock over stablecoin yields and ethics amendments, Bitcoin's price dropped. Yet, analysts believe that the cryptocurrency remains insulated from legislative issues and could continue its upward trend.
According to Jag Kooner, head of derivatives at Bitfinex, traders had not positioned themselves for a legislative breakthrough ahead of the vote. As a result, the modest spot reaction reflects a market that was already not anticipating a bill passage.
The Clarity Act's failure in the Senate led to an immediate wave of liquidations, with $571 million worth of long futures positions unwound in the first 24 hours after the vote. However, analysts such as Ilya Kalchev from Nexo Dispatch believe that Bitcoin's recovery points to consolidation rather than an immediate breakout.
