Bitcoin Defies Jobs Report with Resilient $80k Hold
Bitcoin's (BTC) resilience in the face of a hot US jobs report has left traders and analysts scratching their heads. The economy added 162,000 positions in August, nearly triple the 56,000 expected, which is excellent news for workers but less than ideal for asset managers accustomed to abundant liquidity.
The jobs report briefly pushed Bitcoin below $80,000 on Friday, but it quickly recovered and has been holding steady around that level ever since. This recovery represents genuine relative strength, as the macro threat of higher interest rates hasn't disappeared.
Gold fell around 1% on Friday and extended its decline on Monday, while Wall Street's three main indices also closed lower after payrolls. Bitcoin's ability to reclaim $80,000 while those markets struggled suggests that buyers still view dips as opportunities rather than invitations to sell.
The dollar's weakness is providing some protection for Bitcoin, but concerns about US debt and Treasury bond-market intervention continue supporting demand for assets with limited or politically independent supply. Spot ETF demand and improving US regulatory expectations have also strengthened the crypto market's foundation.
