Bitcoin Defies Odds with $81,000 Surge Despite Industry Setbacks
Bitcoin's price surged past $81,000 on Friday, defying expectations of a downturn following recent setbacks for the crypto industry.
The surge comes despite lawmakers blocking the Clarity Act, which aimed to regulate the crypto space by dividing oversight between regulators. The move was seen as a significant blow to the industry, but it appears to have had little impact on Bitcoin's price.
The Federal Reserve also hiked interest rates on Wednesday due to high inflation in the US, which some analysts believed would negatively affect Bitcoin. However, Grayscale, an asset manager, noted that the move was a mid-cycle adjustment and not a cyclical change, suggesting that Bitcoin's price might not be significantly affected.
In fact, Bitcoin has historically performed well in low-interest-rate environments due to increased liquidity in the market. While investors pulled nearly $427 million from Bitcoin exchange-traded funds in the US earlier this week, flows turned positive on Thursday with investors putting in nearly $160 million.
