Bitcoin Defies Odds with Surprise Price Surge
Bitcoin's recent price surge has left many wondering why the cryptocurrency hasn't been affected by the usual negative factors. Despite an unusually hostile macro week, Bitcoin gained about 6% on Friday and briefly traded above $81,000.
The week saw several potential headwinds for crypto, including the Senate failing to advance the CLARITY Act, the Federal Reserve raising its target range by 25 basis points, the Bank of Japan increasing its policy rate, a stronger U.S. Dollar Index, and Brent crude remaining above $100 per barrel.
However, instead of extending its earlier decline, Bitcoin reversed from around $76,000 and briefly traded as high as $81,253 on Friday. The move was driven by short liquidations, with approximately $470 million in shorts being liquidated compared to just $60 million in long liquidations.
The setup resembles a behavioral shift seen during 2023, when Bitcoin continued to rise despite repeated negative headlines. While the RSI has strengthened and momentum is improving, the MACD remains below the signal line, indicating that the improvement is not yet fully confirmed.
