Bitcoin Dominance: BTC Surpasses ETH and SOL in 5-Year Performance
Bitcoin has outpaced Ethereum and Solana over the past five years, according to data from Binance. From September 18, 2021, to the current price, Bitcoin rose from $48,306 to $78,131, a gain of approximately 61.7%. In contrast, Ethereum fell from $3,396 to $2,507, a decline of about 26.2%, while Solana slipped from $147 to $106, down roughly 27.9%.
Ryan Lee, Chief Analyst at Bitget, attributed Bitcoin's relative outperformance to its established role as a macro and institutional asset. He said that Bitcoin's price is supported by greater ETF access and its limited-supply narrative. Ethereum and Solana, on the other hand, remain more closely tied to their respective ecosystems and real-world use cases.
Binance Research cautioned that comparisons of outperformance can vary depending on the timeframe used, pointing instead to Bitcoin dominance as a broader measure. They noted that Bitcoin has benefited from a broader buyer base, deeper liquidity, and an investment case centered on scarcity.
