Bitcoin Dominance Deepens as Altcoin Open Interest Drops 15%
The cryptocurrency derivatives market is shifting towards Bitcoin as altcoin open interest drops by approximately 15% over the past month. In contrast, Bitcoin's open interest rose by about 8%, according to data reported by CoinDesk.
This divergence highlights a growing concentration of capital in Bitcoin, driven by its deeper integration into traditional financial markets. Bitcoin has become more firmly integrated through exchange-traded funds (ETFs), institutional hedging strategies, basis trades, and its use as collateral in lending and derivatives.
Many altcoin projects lack clear structures for how token value accrues to investors, making them more vulnerable during bearish market conditions. The weakness in altcoin derivatives is partly attributed to broader market pressures, including a downturn in tech stocks, which often correlates with risk-off sentiment in crypto.
