Bitcoin Ecosystem Woes: AI-Powered Audit Unveils 85 Critical Bugs
A recent AI-assisted security audit has uncovered a staggering number of critical vulnerabilities in the Bitcoin ecosystem. The initiative, led by Calle, the pseudonymous developer behind the Cashu ecash protocol, involved 16 Bitcoin developers who analyzed 390 projects using AI models.
The results were alarming: 85 critical bugs and 635 high-severity issues were discovered across the projects in just over 24 hours. The audit highlighted growing concerns about the security of the Bitcoin ecosystem and underscored the importance of robust testing and validation procedures.
While AI significantly accelerated vulnerability discovery, the sheer volume of findings presented challenges for coordinating disclosures and managing reports. To address this issue, the team continues to improve its automated testing tools while still relying on manual review to validate AI-generated results.
