Bitcoin Edges Out XRP in Better Buy Showdown
Bitcoin and XRP are two of the largest cryptocurrencies on the planet. Bitcoin has been around since 2009 and sports a total market value of $1.55 trillion as of September 1, 2026. In contrast, the XRP Ledger launched in 2012, and its market cap is currently at $85.1 billion.
The two coins have distinct use cases. Bitcoin serves as a nationless currency with minimal inflation, while XRP was built to transfer money across international borders. The question on investors' minds is which one is the better buy right now?
Looking at the charts, both cryptocurrencies have performed well over the past three years. However, their routes to success were different. Bitcoin roughly tripled in value during this period, while XRP gained around 170%. Despite these gains, the ratio of Bitcoin's market value to XRP's has remained relatively stable.
XRP investors may be waiting for the next catalyst to drive up prices, but it appears that Ripple itself is shifting its focus towards RLUSD, a stablecoin launched in 2024. This shift raises questions about whether XRP will continue to play a significant role in Ripple's plans.
