Bitcoin ETFs Bleed $450M as September Selling Pressure Mounts
Bitcoin ETFs have been hemorrhaging assets at an alarming rate as September's selling pressure mounts. Over three trading days from September 8-10, US spot Bitcoin ETFs shed a staggering $450 million in net outflows. This sudden reversal of fortune is particularly striking given the previous week's strong inflows, which had pulled in approximately $987 million.
The largest contributor to this recent drawdown was ARKB, the ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF, which reported $164.3 million in outflows on September 10 alone. This is a significant concern, as ARK Invest's products tend to attract growth-oriented and risk-tolerant investors. The concentration of selling on September 10 suggests a tipping point dynamic rather than a gradual reassessment.
Bitcoin's price action mirrored the sentiment, trading near or below $80,000 throughout the selloff. As of September 10, Bitcoin dipped closer to $77,000 as redemption pressure intensified. This recent trend is particularly noteworthy given that since these products launched in January 2024, cumulative net inflows sit at approximately $55.17 billion.
However, it's worth noting that 2026 has been a tougher year for these funds, with net outflows standing at roughly $1.07 billion. This latest selling spree absorbed only a fraction of the total, but the speed of the reversal is what caught attention. Going from nearly $1 billion in weekly inflows to $450 million in weekly outflows inside of a single calendar week is the kind of whiplash that makes portfolio managers reach for their antacids.
