Bitcoin ETFs on Track to Control One in Ten Coins
Bitcoin ETFs have accumulated $102.532 billion in assets since their inception, representing 6.29% of every Bitcoin in existence. To reach 10%, these funds would need to increase their holdings by a further $60.5 billion, taking the total to $163.0 billion.
The current market capitalization of Bitcoin stands at around $1.630 trillion, with one in every sixteen coins currently held within US spot ETFs. These coins are stored in cold storage, meaning they cannot be spent or staked, except as backing for shares traded on exchanges.
Reaching the 10% milestone is estimated to take around three more years, assuming a consistent pace of inflows and a market capitalization of $1.630 trillion. However, historical data shows that Bitcoin ETF inflows have fluctuated, which could potentially accelerate or delay this timeline.
The impact on price volatility would be significant, as fewer coins are available to meet demand, resulting in more volatile price movements. A market with limited floating supply tends to rise sharply on demand but also decline steeply when demand fades.
