Bitcoin ETFs Poised to Outpace Gold Counterparts
Bloomberg's Eric Balchunas expects Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to surpass gold ETFs in assets, potentially tripling their size. Speaking with Bitcoin Magazine, Balchunas said that as younger investors grow up, they will increasingly view Bitcoin as a store of value, driving institutional adoption.
The Bitcoin ETF market debuted in 2024 and has already attracted nearly $100 billion in assets. Balchunas attributes the potential growth to falling volatility, a weakening dollar, and the 'debasement trade', where investors buy non-yielding assets like gold and Bitcoin as the dollar loses value.
He notes that Bitcoin's price is currently volatile but expects this to change in the future. As Bitcoin's correlation with gold increases, big institutions will be more likely to invest in it as a reliable store of value.
