Bitcoin ETFs Poised to Triple Gold's Assets in Three Years

Bitcoin ETFs, launched in January 2024, have rapidly grown to around $120 billion in assets under management within 18 months, outpacing initial forecasts. According to Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas, Bitcoin ETFs could triple the assets of gold ETFs within three to five years, driven by younger investors who prefer Bitcoin as a store of value. Unlike gold, which took over two decades to reach similar levels, Bitcoin ETFs benefit from easier access through brokerage accounts and broader portfolio use cases.

Despite their volatility, both Bitcoin and gold ETFs attract investors simultaneously, showing complementary roles rather than competition. This growth is attributed in part to the ease with which younger investors can access these funds through brokerage accounts, a factor that sets them apart from traditional investments like gold.
