Bitcoin ETFs Reverse Strong Inflows as Buying Fades
Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have seen a significant shift in their inflows, transitioning from net redemptions to a more cautious phase. According to Glassnode, U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $3.52 billion in net inflows during August, their strongest monthly result of 2026. However, this trend reversed as the month came to a close, with a nine-session streak of inflows ending on August 29 and resulting in $201.8 million in net outflows.
The weakness continued into September, with Glassnode's Sept. 16 report indicating that U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF flows had turned negative, recording approximately $334 million of outflows between Sept. 8 and Sept. 14. This follows nearly $1 billion of inflows during the first days of September.
Glassnode attributes this shift to a broader slowdown in new demand for Bitcoin, citing stalled on-chain capital inflows, flat stablecoin supply, and halted corporate treasury buying. The firm also reported that Bitcoin's realized capitalization recorded its first outflow in 28 days on Sept. 15.
