Bitcoin ETFs Swing from $5.8B Loss to $800M Gain
The tide has turned for U.S.-listed spot bitcoin ETFs in 2026. After watching billions drain out of these funds for months, a sharp turnaround has pushed them back into positive territory. According to data from SoSoValue analyzed by CoinDesk, the funds now hold nearly $800 million in net inflows for 2026, reversing a $5.8 billion deficit recorded on July 13.
The recovery is closely tied to bitcoin's price, which has recovered to about $85,000 after dropping below $58,000 earlier this year. This price move and the ETF turnaround appear to be feeding each other, with rising prices drawing in more buyers and fresh inflows supporting the rally.
A significant share of the recent momentum can be attributed to U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's announcement of increased bond purchases in August. Nearly $4 billion of the inflows have landed since then, a liquidity management tool that was rolled out as bond yields climbed to multi-year highs.
