Bitcoin Exchange Reserve Drops to 2023 Lows Amid Rising Demand
Bitcoin exchange reserves have dropped to levels not seen since 2023, amidst rising demand and a recent price rally that saw Bitcoin reclaim its previous high around $87,000. Traders are increasingly scooping up tokens from exchanges as they buy in, causing the reserve across all exchanges to drop sharply.
According to CryptoQuant data, there are now about 2.68 million BTC held on exchanges as of Saturday, October 3. This decline has been a persistent trend throughout several Bitcoin market cycles, with exchange reserves peaking at around 3.2 million BTC in early 2024 when the price was below $70,000.
The fact that this downtrend continued through significant changes in the asset's price suggests it may not be solely tied to a single event or rally. While analysts see decreases in exchange reserves as potential signs of accumulation or long-term holding, they caution that other factors may also be at play, such as increases in outflows from major exchanges like Binance.
