Bitcoin Eyes Gold's Market Cap Lead as CZ Predicts Gradual Shift Towards Digital Assets

Binance co-founder Changpeng 'CZ' Zhao believes that Bitcoin could overtake gold in market value during the next bull cycle, despite gold's current market cap being about 10 times larger. Speaking at the Bitcoin Asia 2026 conference in Hong Kong on August 27, CZ noted that major countries have built reserve systems around gold, making a shift towards Bitcoin gradual rather than immediate.

According to CZ, sovereign reserve allocations could eventually tilt towards digital assets, with Bitcoin representing more than 50% of strategic crypto holdings alongside Ethereum (ETH) and BNB (BNB). He also highlighted the importance of stablecoins in expanding crypto use, predicting that AI-assisted trading would develop before AI-driven payments.

CZ's prediction comes after Bitcoin gained over 25% last week, with its price near $79,700 on August 27. Gold, meanwhile, has moved above $4,600. While gold still holds a significant lead in market value, CZ's comments suggest that Bitcoin could make up ground in the next bull cycle.
